If there were any doubters that the North of England is in rude musical health, the arrival of High Hazels will surely set them straight. The Sheffield four piece are set to release their debut single ‘Hearts Are Breaking’ on 7 October on Heist or Hit Records. The track delivers a hefty dose of Northern wit and charm that wouldn’t be out of place on one of Richard Hawley’s finest long players, and there’s more than a hint of The Smiths era Johnny Marr in here too.
The video features reused VHS Camcorder footage from a 1980s party that looks like it was held in a Sheffield working men’s club. Frontman James Leesley says this of the video:
“We were looking for something that had a certain romantic feel about it, and after stumbling across this family footage from 1985, it seemed to suit the song really well. There’s also a kind of nostalgia and humour to it which we all liked too.”
Safe to say it’s pretty much a perfect fit.
