If you’ve been following the progress of Sheffield troubadours Slow Club over the past couple of years, there’s a fair chance you’ll have heard them talk about Sweet Baboo. It helps that he plays the bass in what has become the band’s steadfast live outfit and has supported the band during many of their live shows. It’s strange to think that Sweet Baboo is about to release his fourth (yes, you read that right, fourth) album, and it’s being released on that indie hit truffle snuffling label Moshi Moshi on 11 February.
In celebration of his album’s impending release, Sweet Baboo (AKA Stephen Black) has released a teaser track in the form of ‘Let’s Go Swimming Wild’. It’s a glorious riot of trumpets and emotive bursts, and come to think of it, it’s Black’s vocals, sitting comfortably between Orlando Weeks and Lloyd Cole, that lift the whole track up beyond the regular indie standard. It’s a blinder people, and you can listen to it below.
