It’s been a while since we’ve heard from These New Puritans. The Southend based quartet, never known for being overstated, seemed to have all but disappeared (bar a handfull of live shows) since the release of their stunningly dark sophomore album Hidden in 2010. Until now. These New Puritans have broken the silence in fine style with the release of a new track ‘Fragment Two’, the first taste of their new album Field Of Reeds, which is due out on 10 June on Infectious Music.
The track is a typically slow burning fuse of sinister energy replete with stabs of strings and bristling horns, and Jack Barnett’s vocals sound more like Mark E. Smith than ever. ‘Fragment Two’ signals a more introspective, melodic approach from the band and stands as the precursor to what could well be an album of resounding maturity and invention.
