Listen: Forest Swords – ‘Thor’s Stone’

forest swords thor's stone To say this has been ‘long awaited’ would certainly be an understatement. Liverpudlian producer Matt Barnes, who goes by the moniker Forest Swords was responsible for one of the most refreshingly exciting releases of 2010 in the form of his EP Dagger Paths. Now, after a three year gap (and in typically understated style) he has posted a new track on his soundcloud page. As expected it’s pretty spectacular. ‘Thor’s Stone’ is an etherial trek through the nocturnal recesses of Barnes’ mind, filled with spooky, looping vocal samples. The twisted phonics reach out to meet you head-on with a crying refrain of tribal sharps and flats, but all the while remaining masterfully restrained. If this is a precursor of further Forest Swords material, we wait with bated breath.
