Consumate freak-folk aficionado Laura Veirs has announced that her new album Warp and Weft (named in reference to the sewing technique) is set for release on 19 August on Bella Union. It’s pretty exciting news as it’s been a while since 2010’s acclaimed July Flame and that album was one of the most sublime collections of heart-on-sleeve folk music to see the light of day for a very long time. In celebration of the imminent album, Veirs has put out a new track for everyone’s delectation. It’s called ‘Sun Song’ and sounds like the soundtrack to a pining cowboy plodding off into the sunset, if that cowboy happened to be Jana Hunter riding off with Devendra Banhart and features backing vocals from none other than Neko Case. The track is drenched in bright sensuous tones that reflect the strong sentiment of impending summertime that pervades the track. It’s an enticing taste of what Warp and Weft has to offer.
