News has just broken that there’s a sensation happening in the German capital of Berlin. And that sensation is a trio called Ballet School. The band create pure unadulterated synth-driven pop music that captures flashes of shoegaze, 80s R’n’B and definitely owes no small part of it’s existence to the quintessentially 80s rhythmic pop formulated by the like of Prince and Madonna. Imagine Haim transported back to 1987 and straight into a John Hughes film and you’re nearly there.
Their single ‘Heartbeat Overdrive’ is a big hitter of a track, dripping with Echo and the Bunnymen-esque guitar and the dreamy pop sensibilities of the Cocteau Twins (and I’m not just saying that because they’re signed to Bella Union).
