It would be hard to deny Scotland’s musical heritage. Maybe it’s something to do with the cold winters and readily available alcohol that sparks creativity. Whatever the reason, a new torch bearer for the country’s musical tradition is about to step forward in the form of Glasgow based duo Honeyblood.
The band, consisting of Stina Tweeddale (vocals/guitar) and Shona McViccar (drums), have been snapped up by Fat Cat records and are set to release their debut 7″ ‘Bud’/’Kissing On You’ on 4 November. The lead track sees the outfit taking a slight departure from the ear pummelling rock of their early recordings in favour of a more considered, 60s influenced melody. It’s a track guaranteed to find a permanent place in you brain and have you humming it for days.
Tweeddale and McViccar have managed to spin their hard rock energy into a chrysalis of tight pop that sounds just as urgent as their early tracks, and has the same scrappy charm, too.
