Listen: La Sera – ‘Losing To The Dark’

La Sera new press 2It’s been a scant few weeks since the Vivian Girls played their last ever show, which saw some sad times all around, but from the ashes of one musical venture another one springs. The amicable demise of the Vivian Girls has clearly meant bassist Katy Goodman has found more time to dedicate to her long-running side project La Sera, and this is borne out by the announcement of the imminent release of her third album, entitled Hour of the Dawn which is slated for release on 13 May on Hardly Art Records. But you don’t have to wait until then to get a taste of the album because the lead track ‘Losing To The Dark’ has been released as of right now and is available to download for zero pounds.

Goodman has become a pass master of creating energetic, bouncy pieces of pop-infused beach rock, but ‘Losing To The Dark’ sees her on more sombre form, reflecting on things once held dear that have now become lost. No doubt the demise of Vivian Girls has something to do with this sentiment, but the song is redemptive too. There’s an empowering feel to the track, not least because of the lyrics which emphasise the process of ditching unnecessary baggage and moving on into the light. ‘Losing To The Dark’ is a track that is cathartic and catchy all at the same time.
