Just when you thought it was safe to turn on your stereo, along come WOMPS. The Glasgow based two piece continue the tradition of turbo-charged noise pop initiated by the likes of Playlounge and Nai Harvest, but with WOMPS, the aesthetic has been amped up quite a few notches.
The band’s new track ‘Live A Little Less’ was recorded with veteran producer Steve Albini (yes, the man who brought us the likes of Jesus Lizard and Nirvana) and it harbours a 90s intensity not heard since the Seattle scene cracked wide open. The track shakes with unrelenting intensity and sucker-punch of catchy melody.
The song is the first taste of WOMPS’ forthcoming 7″, set for release on 28 September on Damnably Records. The single contains two of the eleven tracks recorded during the band’s sessions with Albini… we smell an album coming sometime soon.
‘Live A Little Less’ is a grubby gem that proves WOMPS are not only capable of creating gargantuan swells of crunchy guitar and breakneck drums – there’s also a huge, squidgy, beating heart right in the middle of it.
