Newcastle based quintet Shields have delivered one hell of a juxtaposition with the video for their new track ‘Alive’.
Taken from their forthcoming album How Can We Fix This?, due out 26 February, ‘Alive’ is a ripping 4′ 30″ of rhythmic acrobatics, interweaving guitar work and harmonies that could give the likes of Everything Everything a serious run for their money. Not only that, but the song has a pretty positive underlying message of the importance of striving towards your goals in the face of adversity.
But the video for the track sees the band embrace their dark side. The expansive clip tells the tale of possibly the worst road trip companion you could wish for, following a comically intense DJ/serial killer as he tours the countryside dispatching unsuspecting fans. It has the feel of Ben Wheatley and Edgar Wright’s Sightseers envisioned through the mind of Hunter S. Thompson.
The band say this of the video: “With ‘Alive’, we wanted to do something closer to a short film and felt the urge to create something a bit darker than our previous videos.” Mission accomplished.
